Historical Background

Darley Butler has its origins in 1848 as a diversified organisation founded on a partnership between two pioneering gentlemen in Ceylon: Edward J Darley, and Samuel Butler. A primary exporter of tea and local produce, and the island’s first recorded exporter of coffee, Darley Butler’s interest covered estate agencies, commission agents, imports/exports and ship chartering. The partnership was converted to a limited liability company in the year 1920.
With the decline in the export business, the company shifted its focus to imports, local sales and distribution of consumer products. With the acquisition in 1967, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of E B Creasy & Company Plc, which was listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Brand Management

A dedicated marketing team lead by experienced Brand Managers is the driving force behind aggressive marketing efforts and promotion of brands around the island. The medium and long-term strategic goals of the company are to identify opportunities in high growth mass market consumer categories, and enter those markets offering high quality & reasonably priced products. 

Distribution of Products 

Distribution is conducted via 132 professionally trained Consumer Sales Representatives, and 20 sales management and supervisory staff. The distribution operation in Sri Lanka is facilitated by a modern fleet of commercial vehicles and the services of 45 long-standing stockists located strategically throughout the country. The island is subdivided in to eighty nine sectors with a sales representative allocated to each geographical area. A network of 57 stock holding agents, facilitate a decentralized operation to maintain substantial stocks of all our SKUs & other facilities for regional distribution.
