The House of E.B. Creasy was founded in 1878 by Edward Bennet Creasy and incorporated as a limited liability company in 1929, becoming quoted on the local Stock Exchange in 1968. The Company is among the pioneers of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce having joined in 1890, while Darley Butler – a wholly owned subsidiary enjoys the distinction of being one of the three oldest members since 1852.

Over the years E.B. Creasy has expanded by organic growth as well as by strategic acquisitions and now constitutes a diversified group spanning a wide spectrum of activities ranging from import, export, distribution and freight forwarding to manufacturing, food processing, hoteliering and plantation management.
The main activities are manufacture of consumer disposables, marketing of hardware, Automotive accessories, Solar Powered Lighting Systems for rural electrification, freight forwarding & export of non-traditional products.
The Hardware & Automotive Accessories Marketing Division has an islandwide dealer network which distributes products imported from well known foreign principals as well as locally manufactured items comprising of automotive batteries, tyres , aerosol paints & abrasive paper, water pumps & power tools. The Renewable Energy division imports & installs Solar Home Systems under a World Bank sponsored project in rural un-electrified areas through Sales Centres established in the North Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-East & Uva provinces.
